Wilson house have won our House Debating Competition after a tough final against Wilberforce

Congratulations to Wilson, who narrowly won the competition on Thursday 21st March. Wilson’s team; Harry M. and James B. made strong arguments against revoking the UK citizenship of people who have left the country to join ISIS, and were able to call upon an impressive number of facts to support their points.

Despite the impressive rebuttal from Wilberforce’s Charlotte L. and Amelia F., who demonstrated detailed understanding of the legal case, Wilson’s more emotive appeal, centred on the case of Shamima Begum, was marginally more convincing. Charlotte L., however, was awarded best speaker.

The debate highlighted the complex legal and ethical issues involved, and provided an excellent finish to a successful competition which, over the last few weeks, has seen houses speak on climate change, knife crime and the importance of GCSE’s among other world issues.

Well done to all of the speakers in each round of the competition.
