Wilberforce House were crowned champions of our annual inter-house hockey competition at the weekend

Saturday 18th October saw the senior and junior girls compete in the House hockey competition.

All juniors in the Third and Fourth Forms represented their House over the course of the game, with two 30-minute halves giving players plenty of game time to enjoy the action. By the final whistle, both Wilberforce and Raymond had scored one goal a piece, concluding the game as a hard-fought draw.

The senior matches saw the B team able to field 11-aside teams for the first time, which is a testament to the strength and depth that senior girls hockey is experiencing at the moment. Wilberforce demonstrated some excellent pressure from the start, putting Raymond defence under much pressure. Their hard work was rewarded with two goals in the final ten minutes of the game. The Senior A team match was a more tightly contested affair, that is until Lyndsey White executed her trademark hand strike. Minutes later, a second goal started to take the game out of Raymond’s reach. A late rally and some excellent passing around the pitch saw the Raymond team produce a consolation goal, however, Wilberforce again converted another penalty corner to end the game 3-1.

WIlberforce’s draw and two wins saw them achieve a total of 7 points, making them clear winners on the day and we are delighted to congratulate them House Hockey Champions for 2014!’

Congratulations to all teams for some great play to round off a successful half term!
