The last Wednesday of the Michaelmas Term witnessed a great day for Bloxham rugby, with cup success for two of our teams.

The Junior Colts A XV won the final of the County Cup at Chipping Norton, beating Abingdon School 31-17 to retain the title that they had previously won as an Under 14 team. Bloxham conceded early on in the match but then scored tries through Henry Hopkins, Toby Staveley-Parker and Joe Maw. Joe particularly impressed spectators with his speed on the wing. Two further tries followed for the captain, Alfie Barbeary, who received the trophy after the game.

Meanwhile, Bloxham’s 1st‘XV progressed to the Fifth Round of the NatWest Schools U18 Vase competition thanks to a big win over Lord Williams’s School, Thame. Playing on a big pitch which perfectly suited their quick backs, Bloxham scored 10 tries in an entertaining 64-0 win, with George Grieve (three tries) and George Cassell (two) leading the way, the latter ending the term as the top scorer with 16. Jake Manning was in fine form with the boot and converted six of the tries. The 1st‘XV now have a match to look forward to in January, competing as one of the last 32 teams remaining in the competition.

Thank you to Simon Grieve for capturing this moment in play from the 1st XV’s match on Wednesday.
