Last weekend, 14 students from Third Form to Upper Sixth took part in the Model United Nations conference at Magdalen College School in Oxford.

The students represented the UK, Bangladesh and Singapore, with delegates debating topics such as the control of malaria, the impact of rising sea levels, the future of the Guantanamo Bay detention camps and LGBT rights in Russia. The final session involved a crisis debate in the General Assembly responding to the mysterious detonation of a nuclear weapon on the Sino-Indian border.

In the closing ceremony, two of our UK delegates received Highly Commended awards: Dimitry Ni, the Security Council delegate, and Dylan P, for the Middle East committee – an excellent achievement in a field of around 260 students.

Thank you to all partaking students and to Mrs Summers for this report and her support of the team.
