Our First Form students enjoyed a weekend visit to the Outdoor Centre in Glasbury, Hereford on the river Wye.

October’s First Form Camp was held at the Outdoor Centre in Glasbury, Hereford on the river Wye, attended by all First Form students, Mrs Cochran, Mr Redpath, Mrs Summers and Mr Richardson. Here’s a brief report from Head of Exham House, Mrs Cochran:

The objective of the camp was to bond as a year group, try new challenges and for the Exham tutors to get to know their charges in a different setting.’

Following a hearty supper, their first night was spent on a walk. Equipped with torches and walking shoes, they made out the shapes of the black mountains, listened carefully to the sounds and were given an interesting talk on the geography of the region by the instructor, Dan. After that, it was back to the centre for bed.

An early start and breakfast were on the cards for Saturday ready for the activities ahead: half the group went caving whilst the other half went canoeing. This really challenged some of the students to try new activities. Even though many of the students were apprehensive of those small spaces, everyone had a go and came out smiling!

After consuming a delicious lasagne and chocolate mousse for supper, everyone went on an orienteering course around the centre’s grounds. Such great teamwork was demonstrated by all.

On the final day, canoeing and caving activities continued and then a hasty return to the centre to pack up and get on the coach back to Bloxham.

Mrs Cochran concludes: “We had some very tired students but many happy memories were made.”
