Our Wine Society had their first event of the year on Wednesday, with former staff member Charles Atkinson coming in to give our students a taste tour of the best in Italian wines

The school’s Wine Society, which consists of 14 Upper Sixth students keen to learn about the world of wine, visited Italy at its most recent tasting, in the capable hands of former member of the Bloxham staff, Charles Atkinson.

Charles took the members on a tour of Italy, from Venice via Naples to the deep south (Puglia) and then the North (Piedomont), with the tasting including such well-known names as Chianti and Barbaresco, as well as less familiar ones such as Falanghina and Primitivo. The Society’s Fromageur, Toby Clark, provided a wonderful assortment of cheeses and cold meats to accompany the wines and the Secretary, Sam Manning, spoke for everyone when he thanked Charles for an informative and enjoyable tasting. Mr Atkinson professed himself impressed with the erudition and willingness to air their ideas exhibited by this year’s Wine Society members.
