Our 1st XV team’s match against Richard Hale School in the NatWest Cup saw them achieve a resounding victory over the home side

Thank you to Mr Batten for providing the report below on Bloxham’s 1st XV’s strong performance and well-earned victory over Richard Hale School yesterday afternoon:

Bloxham School advanced into Round 5 of the NatWest Cup with a hard-fought 36-13 win at Richard Hale School, Hertford. Up against a big pack on a narrow, muddy pitch, Bloxham did well to reach half time 21-13 up through tries by George Grieve, Charlie Gulliver and Charlie Krabbe. They had to defend hard against a lot of tackling near their own line early in the second half before late tries by Charlie Gulliver and Jack Briggs put the game beyond the home side. Wiggy Gurney added four conversions and a penalty to the score. The difference between the two sides was Bloxham’s ruthlessness in taking every opportunity they were presented with – the Bloxham backs looked dangerous out wide as they have done all season. However, ultimately, the key to this victory was the side’s outstanding defence and the pack’s ability to cope with a much bigger outfit.
