Bloxham offers students many opportunities to follow their talents and passions, both inside and outside of the classroom.
EAL Support
Pupils who stay at Bloxham for one year from Europe are prepared for the Cambridge ESOL (English Speaker of Other Languages) exam that best suits them. Preparation includes working on their grammar and vocabulary so that they can write and speak accurately as well as improving their listening and speaking skills. For 13+ and 14+ pupils, the exam is usually the Cambridge First (FCE), but on occasion it is the Cambridge Advanced (CAE). Both exams give the pupils a proficiency grade that is recognised across Europe. Sixth Form (16+) pupils are prepared for the IELTS Academic English exam (International English Language Testing System) which allows them entry into English universities or English speaking courses in Europe.
For our other overseas pupils who require English language support, one to one or group classes are offered to improve their grammar and vocabulary, enabling them to participate more fully in their other classes. This is particularly relevant for GCSE students as they face English Language and Literature papers and coursework. This cohort of pupils have the option of taking the Cambridge ESOL exams or the English as a Second Language GCSE.
Bloxham also offers help in arranging other language qualifications, for example German GCSE for those who can speak and write it and would like to have the qualification.
