As their tenure draws to a close, we sat down with our outgoing School Captains, Charlotte and Toby, to reflect on their time in the role, the lessons they’ve learnt, and the legacy they hope to leave behind.

What have you learnt during your time as School Captains?

Toby: One of the biggest things I’ve learned is the art of delegation. At the start, I tried to do everything myself, but I quickly realised that’s just not sustainable—especially once exams kick in.

Charlotte: I’d agree. I’ve also grown in confidence when it comes to leading a team and asking others to step up. It’s not always easy, but it’s so important.

What have been the biggest challenges?

Charlotte: Public speaking, without a doubt. We’ve had to do quite a bit of it throughout the year, and it’s definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone.

Toby: And encouraging others to do public speaking too like during Chapel or assemblies. Getting people to volunteer to do announcements in assembly isn’t always easy. It’s not everyone’s favourite thing!

What’s been a proud moment for you both?

Toby: The Old Bloxhamist Dinner really stands out. It was a rewarding evening.

Charlotte: Yes, meeting all the Old Bloxhamists was inspiring. Giving a speech in front of them and then receiving such positive feedback afterwards was really nice.

What’s something surprising you’ve had to deal with?

Toby: Standing your ground with teachers—like when they say you’re not allowed in the staff coffee room, even though you are!

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and what advice would you give to the next School Captains?

Charlotte: Make the most of it, it goes by so quickly. It honestly feels like just last week we were announced as School Captains.

Toby: Delegate as much as you can and take advantage of all the privileges that come with the role.

Charlotte: You really do get a lot of privileges and I don’t think we made the most of every single one but that’s something we’d encourage the next captains to do.

Sum up your experience in three words.

Both: Rewarding, fast, and enjoyable.

What will you miss the most about being at Bloxham?

Charlotte: I’m really going to miss my friends. It’s quite daunting knowing we’re all moving on.

Toby: It’s comforting to know we’ll stay in touch. I’ve made friendships that will last a lifetime.
