Life in Bloxham's Sixth Form
Our virant Sixth Form offers an environment in which enthusiastic, motivated young adults thrive. Students and staff work together to achieve consistently excellent results and they do so without sacrificing any of the wonderful extra-curricular, charitable and other enrichment programmes that continue to make the Sixth Form such an attractive place in which to learn.
We offer a broad range of subjects and flexible option blocks to enable students to tailor their studies towards their passions and future plans. Each year, the vast majority of our students gain entry into their first choice university, including Oxford and Cambridge, with an increasing number seeking higher educational opportunities both abroad and via apprenticeship programmes.
Our Careers Department works closely with external careers advisers, teaching staff, tutors and Housemasters/mistresses. The Department offers one-to-one support on writing university applications and advice on the best combination of subjects to support a student's future path. Our Old Bloxhamists have gone on to work in a variety of fields, amongst them airline pilots, designers, doctors, business analysts, brand managers, and entrepreneurs that own their own businesses.
Studying for the future comes first for Bloxham Sixth Formers, but life here also offers a good mix of sport, the arts and outdoors, as well as many exciting trips and social events. Bloxham's Broader Curriculum Programme caters for a wide range of passions and interests, and students can become involved in a huge variety of activities, from textiles to CCF and sailing to orchestra. More details on our Broader Curriculum can be found here.
As the senior members of the school, Sixth Form students enjoy a greater degree of independence. They are given more control and choice over where they study, along with the opportunity to stand for a number of roles of responsibility. In addition to the regular School Captain and Prefect roles, these include the popular Peer Listeners programme, for which students receive formal training to listen to fellow students’ problems, opportunities to lead clubs and activities for younger pupils, and the chance to run Bloxham School Sound – our student radio station!
Social in the Sixth Form
Our Sixth Form students enjoy a rich and varied social programme of events. These include an annual Sixth Form Camp, normally held on the first weekend of the Michaelmas Term, house dances throughout the Michaelmas and Lent Terms and regular informal Sixth Form socials held in the Sixth Form Centre. Sixth Form students who are keen to learn about the world of wine can also apply to be part of the the school’s Wine Society, indulging in tasting evenings, formal events and sometimes trips abroad. Alongside this, students also have the opportunity to travel as part of our senior sports tours, which have taken place in previous years in Amsterdam and South Africa. Our upcoming tours include a senior cricket tour to Sri Lanka in 2018 and a senior hockey, netball and rugby tour to South Africa in 2019.
Sixth Form Services Programme
All Lower Sixth students participate in the Community Service Programme, a year-long commitment which helps them to develop confidence, communications skills, empathy and humility. From helping primary school children with literacy, to assisting with local food banks, students are given the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in, and make a valuable contribution to the wider community.
