Strong Start to the Hockey Season
Girls Hockey at Bloxham School is off to a smashing start this term with strong results from the senior girls teams and the U14A's! Captain of the First Team, Lottie R. had this to report:
On Saturday, we beat Cheltenham Ladies for the first time since before 2011, the last time we played them was 2017 where we lost 8-0. However, we stuck to our key principle of ‘Defend narrow, attack wide’ and came away with a 4-1 win. The girls kept their heads up high after going 1-0 down and fought back in the most positive way they could, our communication was strong all game and we were aggressive in the final quarter resulting in 4 goals.
We want to build off last season’s success in terms of winning and we want to restore the ‘First Team Culture’, boosting the recognition of girls’ hockey at Bloxham School. After losing a strong group of Upper Sixth last year, it was important that the new team bonded quickly. I am really impressed with the new influx of girls, the enthusiasm and determination within the team is reflected in our early success. We all have the same strong intentions of training hard, have respect for eachother and give our all on the pitch. We hope to inspire the younger girls and see them progress to the First Team in years to come.
The U14A's team have also had a successful start to the season with a 6-2 win against Denstone College followed by a 3-0 win against Cheltenham at the weekend.
U14s coach, Ally Rose said "The U14A’s trained hard during the week for our away fixture at Cheltenham. It was a tight first half with Bloxham unable to convert chances early on. Going into the break 0-0 the girls showed strong character and resilience, converting two early second half chances to give them a strong buffer going into the last ten minutes. A late goal secured the victory to give them two wins from two. We're looking forward to an exciting season ahead and hopefully keep on with the strong form."
