Remembrance Day 2019
"They shall grow not old as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them or the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we shall remember them." Laurence Binyon
The Bloxham School community today gathered around the Headmaster's Lawn to mark Armistice Day. Names of Old Bloxhamists who fell in the First and Second World Wars were read out prior to the Last Post. Wreaths were laid in remembrance of those who laid down their lives for their country.
Bloxham's School Captains also laid a wreath at the Bloxham village war memorial on Sunday 10th November and the school was privileged to have a wreath commemorating all Old Bloxhamists to die in war placed at the Cenotaph in Whitehall by Hari Budha Magar of the Royal Gurkha Rifles. Hari lost both of his legs in combat in Afghanistan and is the first bilateral above-the-knee amputee to summit a peak upward of 19,000 feet. His story can be read here.
We thank Heather Steers who organised the Cenotaph wreath for the school, who works on behalf of Combat Stress for veterans' mental health.
The wreath is shown in the photo below with Hari Budha Magar and Johnson Beharry VC.
