OB Robin Spicer wins RedDot Award
Old Bloxhamist Robin Spicer (Sy 05-10) has been awarded a RedDot Design Award for the Armis Polo Helmet.
The renowned international jury only awards to products that feature an outstanding design, choosing this year from more than 5,500 products submitted by designers and manufacturers from 55 countries.
Spicer is the Head of Industrial Design at Armis Polo and credits Bloxham's Design & Technology programme for his successful career in design; "The real inspiration was captured in the Bloxham DT lab with Mr Skevington and his team" he said.
"Mr. Skevington suggested to enter the Regional Young Engineers of Britain competition, and with the success of that I then qualified for the nationals and the Big Bang Fair, where I also won one of the top prizes. I then commercialised that project (Tack Trolley) and used this funded my Gap Year. This also gave me the drive to head to Loughborough University and the top design school in the UK, where I graduated with First Class Honours degree with academic excellence for being the top student.
The Major project at Loughborough (The Armis Helmet) was just meant to be an advert to get me a job, I had no clue it was going to end up turning into a business. I was working full time for the UK's largest design consultancy and running this project on the side, but I now work for the company that bought my business out and am now developing even more exciting technical sports equipment."
In early July, Robin and The Armis Polo Team will celebrate their success during the award ceremony in Essen Germany. We offer our congratulations to Robin and all at Armis Polo.
