The Lent term has seen academic success for pupils taking part in mathematics and chemistry national competitions. Congratulations to our medal and certificate winners!

Chemistry

Three A-level chemists, Jeremy M., Leah N. and Charlie P., sat this year’s Chemistry Olympiad exam set by the Royal Society of Chemistry. The Olympiad papers rigorously test A Level chemist’s ability to solve novel and challenging problems using their underlying knowledge.

We are delighted that all three chemists performed extremely well, achieving Silver certificates. The three silver certificates signify Bloxham students’ best performance in this competition.

This year, 8,668 candidates sat the paper with only 8.9% achieving the top certificate. Jeremy, Leah and Charlie’s scores meant that they were in the top 17% of candidates, nationally.

Maths

The Maths Challenge is a national maths problem solving competition run by the UK Mathematics Trust. Lent term saw pupils from First to Sixth Form enter at Junior, Intermediate and Senior levels.

We are thrilled that 20 pupils were medal winners, with 3 invited to compete in the next round.

Particular congratulations to Leli L. whose score was exceptional and was invited to the elite Cayley Olympiad round. This is particularly impressive with only 600 pupils invited nationally to take part in this round and a first for Bloxham, certainly in Mr Best’s recollection during his time of over twenty years at Bloxham.
