The Wine Society enjoyed a splendid evening at an Italian dinner hosted by Mr and Mrs Allbrook in the idyllic surroundings of the Woollen Hale garden last week. Each of the five courses was accompanied by a wine chosen by Mr Allbrook to complement the food, with the highlight being a complex and full-bodied 2000 Barolo (Collina Serragrilli) which accompanied Spaghetti Bolognese, while other favourites included the Crostini with Sweet and Sour Peppers and two wonderful Passito dessert wines to go with chocolate and orange cantucci biscuits. Secretary Will Ducker expressed the gratitude of the members of the Society to Mr and Mrs Allbrook for their excellent hospitality in a characteristically deft speech.
