Bloxham has successfully retained the County Cup won last year. The competition this year was staged at Bloxham in cold but dry conditions and featured 5 teams from MCS, Radley, St Edwards, Abingdon and ourselves.
Goals were a rare commodity in the opening series of matches as the teams took time to find their stride. Indeed the first goal of the day was conceded by Bloxham falling behind to MCS. A strong second half performance and a well worked PC conversion saw Bloxham through to a second successive draw to keep them in the pack. The Radley game was to prove decisive when a late Bloxham goal in open play secured the win and the first 3 point haul on the day's scoreboard!
That left Bloxham to play Teddies in their last game while on pitch 2 MCS were up against Radley. Both matches were scoreless at half time and it was a nervy situation with Bloxham aware that a draw might not be enough if MCS could find their scoring touch. The drama came late - and simultaneously on both pitches. Firstly Bloxham were awarded a penalty stroke when the St Edwards 'keeper crudely took out a Bloxham forward. Before Joe Cooper could take the penalty however a roar went up on pitch 2 - a goal ..................for............Radley!
Joe sent the 'keeper the wrong way from the spot and Bloxham were almost home. There followed some fiesty exchanges and cards were shown but Bloxham held on and were worthy Champions with 8 points, 3 ahead of Radley. Now for the South rounds.
