Bloxham School Students Celebrate their A Level Results .

The recent A Level results gained by Bloxham School students have been described as ‘well deserved‘ by Headmaster Mark Allbrook.

The results show that 85% of all pass grades were between A – C with 59.7% A or B grades.

There were some excellent individual performances including a number of straight A grade students and some outstanding achievements by academic departments in fields as diverse as Art and Design, Biology, German and History.

“A Levels are increasingly seen as little more than a ticket to university and this year, with the growth of applicants trying to get into universities, the pressure has been even greater this year.

I am pleased that the vast majority of our pupils have gained the grades that they needed for their chosen university courses. It also appears at this stage that where candidates have narrowly missed their target some universities are showing flexibility and commitment to the candidate rather than putting both parties through the lottery of clearing. For some though clearing or a reapplication for next year - in a few cases with better than predicted grades 'in the bank' and with a fulfilling gap year behind them - will be the better option.Staff are available to discuss these options with students at any time.

This year, in the recession and resultant job market upheaval, there has been much speculation about the wisdom of going on a degree course. It remains clear to me that university remains a very important focus and goal for our students and one which we believe will hold them in excellent stead throughout their lives,” said Mark Allbrook.

And on the GCSE results:

" Absolutely outstanding" was the reaction of Headmaster Mark Allbrook following the publication of this years GCSE results.

" Last years results were very good and we thought it unlikely that they could be bettered but to now be able to record a 99% pass rate between grades A* - C is very good news indeed and shows a 2% improvement on 2008. Even more remarkable is a huge rise in the number of top grades. 58.3% of grades were at either A* or A grade which is a massive 10% leap from last years record which saw us named as one of the top performing schools for value added education in the County. I am therefore delighted to congratulate the pupils and their teachers on some exceptional work."

Bloxham had 70 candidates who gained an average of 10.1 passes each.
