Michael Selby-Green, Joel Nath and Adam Houghton entered as a Crake team in an orienteering cross-country hike. It is
organised by Banbury & District Scout Council and is
called the Tour de Trigs Walking Competition.
Teams from all over the UK and Europe enter the senior
event and the number of teams completing the route has
never exceeded 30 per cent. The programme states 'to
finish the course within the time allowed is indeed an
achievement, but to complete as a team is something of
which walkers can be justly proud'.
Senior teams cover the 50 mile course within a time
limit of 24 hours with junior teams (14 - 17yrs)
covering a 30 mile course within 15 hours.
Stamina and map-reading skills are the order of the
day, along with a strong team effort.
The boys from Crake started at 10.05 hrs and completed the
course at 22.50 hrs, this claimed third place overall.
(The two teams achieving a faster time were in the
17yrs bracket and had entered the competition
the previous year.)
It was certainly time well spent and a great
experience for the trio. The boys should be proud of their
performance. A good result for Crake and a good
result for Bloxham.
